I’ve been hiking with a fellow from Maine named White Owl. He introduced me to fiddle head ferns :
We collected a bunch and had them for dinner:
To the right of the fiddle heads were hickory nuts which turned out to be too dry/too old.

Bonjour, Junco! Good to hear that you were able to sample fiddleheads on the AT…with a Maine-er, no less! (“fougères” – as my Mom & Mémère used to call them). Congrats on making VA and continued safe travels to you!

What did the ferns taste like

We sautéed them in a little bit of olive oil after boiling them for 15 minutes and, to me, they tasted like asparagus. Anything fresh out here is really welcome.
